Great performance attacking wise.

Very suspect defensively at times, but considering we were all on an international break.. I'll put it down to fatigue, because we're always the same.

Theo was very encouraging to start with, faded a bit as most youngsters do, but impressed.

Rosicky was great, some passing didn't come off but he looked very dangerous, and made some great forward runs (Freddie esque).

Cesc was brilliant in the middle, attacking and defensive, his passing was sublime.

Ade worked hard and now that he's got his home goal, his confidence will be higher.

Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand turned the airwaves blue today after calling DJ Chris Moyles a “faggot” live on air.

Moyles, who has been in hot water himself in the past for swearing during live broadcasts, was given the rebuke during a light-hearted exchange on his BBC Radio 1 breakfast show.

The DJ had been questioning the defender about who he thought was most attractive out of his Manchester United team-mates – Alan Smith and Paul Scholes.

Moyles, referring to the two players’ nicknames, said: “If you had to, who would you rather go out with – Smudger or Scholesy?”

Ferdinand replied: “That is not my bag that, that is not my game, talking about going out with geezers.”

But when Moyles, a Leeds United fan, jokingly declared that he would always prefer Smith, an ex-Leeds player, Ferdinand said: “You’re a faggot.”

As others in the studio expressed shock, the England defender said: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’m not homophobic.”

Moyles said “you can’t say that” before joking that the comment was “footballing terminology for a funny lad”.
The conversation had started with Ferdinand defending his England team-mate Peter Crouch after Moyles cast doubts over the Liverpool player’s looks.

“He is a half decent-looking geezer,” said Ferdinand.

“I am not feminine or gay in any way but he is not ugly and a few birds like him.”

But as Moyles pushed for more from Ferdinand, the player quipped: “I don’t want to start talking about going out with players. Let’s move on.”

A spokeswoman for Radio 1 described the exchange, which was followed by jokes from Moyles about Ferdinand “flirting” with him, as “banter”.

A Radio 1 spokeswoman said just two phone complaints had been received about Ferdinand’s interview.

She said: “Rio Ferdinand appeared on Chris Moyles’s show this morning and they entered into some friendly banter about which football player (Smudger or Scholesy) they would go out with.

“After Rio’s comment, he immediately apologised and Moyles acknowledged that he had meant no offence by commenting: ‘I know you didn’t mean anything by it, you’re just messing’.”

Romario signs for Adelaide United...on a 4 game contract

Adelaide United have clinched the signing of Brazilian legend Romario.

The A-League side have been in discussions with the 40-year-old World Cup winner for more than a month and have finally persuaded him to pen a four-game contract.

The guest stint will start in late November and is estimated to be worth £135,000.

Romario is currently playing for American side Miami FC, and as part of the deal they will play two friendly matches in Australia next month.

Adelaide, who were keen to snap up Romario to raise the profile of the game in Australia, are confident that he will still be good enough to make an impact.

"He's got an art you can't coach, you are born with it, and that sort of skill and grace does not dissipate with time if you are still practising," said Adelaide boss John Kosmina.

"He might be a little more leg weary, and he's never been known for his work-rate, but his work-rate around the box is all that counts."

Romario is looking forward to the experience, but is also serious about trying to help Adelaide achieve success.

"You can definitely expect a lot of dedication," he said via video link from Brazil.

"I will do my best to help Adelaide United get into the play-offs and win the whole thing at the end."

All the talk has been of Wenger's fantastic 10 years in charge at Arsenal and rightly so. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was hoping that Johan Cruyff was going to take over the reins but instead in was given to an unknown French dude who looked nothing like a manager.
I wasn't very happy but myself and many others have happily eaten their hat.

Arsene himself has said that he hasn't paid much attention to all this talk, he is more interested in getting his side sharp and ready for out of form Charlton.
Ian Dowie's side have started the season in poor form and have only picked up 1 win from 6 premiership games. Arsenal on the other hand are full of confidence and have had 4 straight wins in all competitions since the 1-0 loss against Manchester City back in August.
This whole form thing makes me a little uncomfortable. Maybe I'm being a tad negative but when a side are playing like pooh and we are on a good run it always seems to change against us. Hopefully that theory can be blown out of the water at 4.45pm Saturday afternoon.

The Charlton strike force of Bent and Hasselbaink are a potential threat especially as we have problems in our back line. Gallas is out, Djourou is to have a fitness test, Senderos, Clichy and Lauren are all still not ready for a return to the squad.
If Djourou doesn't make it then our only real options are Song, Gilberto and Flamini. Which could mean a few switches here and there for other players. So its probably likely that he would go for Song as a straight replacement that way everyone else can stay in their positions.

At the moment it looks as if Wenger has only two decisions to make. Van Persie or Adebayor to partner Henry and two of three wingers. My educated guess tells me that Hleb will be on the right with Ljungberg who was a sub against Porto to be drafted in on the left hand side in place of Tomas Rosicky who maybe rested.

One potential tricky situation maybe Dennis Rommedahl running at Justin Hoyte. Rommedahl hasn't been very consistent for Charlton in his Premiership career but we know that if he has one of his good days then his pace is deadly. I just hope that he hasn't been working on his final ball the way Eboue has.

If we can play the way we did at Old Trafford, with the same energy and commitment then we should brush Charlton aside with one swipe of the right hand but lets hope the boys don't see this as a walk in the park because one thing is certain, Charlton will be fighting and working hard for a result.

Sepp Blatter has declared that World Cup finals should no longer be decided by penalty shoot-outs.

The FIFA President described this summer's shoot-out which saw Italy crowned World Cup victors over France as a "tragedy" and indicated that, in future, drawn finals would be replayed.

"When it comes to the World Cup final it is passion, and when it goes to extra time it is a drama. But when it comes to penalty kicks it is a tragedy. Football is a team sport and penalties is not a team, it is the individual," Blatter told a Swiss Chamber of Commerce event in Zurich.

Blatter also suggested that deducting players from both teams in extra-team would be a superior alternative to penalty shoot-outs.

"Maybe to replay the match if it's the final, you can't do that through the tournament because of lack of time. Maybe to take players away and play golden goal."

Is this guy on drugs? Replaying matches is a horrible idea. Players get enough games as it is, and didn't they even admit players were playing too much? On the plus side, it's not fair, but like it or not, penalties are great fun.

Dario Silva amputated after car crash

Former Portsmouth striker Dario Silva has had his right leg amputated and remains in a serious condition following a car crash in Uruguay.

He lost control of the vehicle, which hit a row of street lights.

The 33-year-old's doctor in the Montevideo hospital said: "Silva's situation is absolutely not solved. We are worried about possible infection."

Former Uruguay internationals Elbio Pappa and Dardo Pereira were also in the car but suffered minor injuries.

The doctor confirmed Silva's leg amputated from the knee down.

Silva was a member of Uruguay's 2002 World Cup squad and played 49 matches for his country, scoring 15 goals.

The striker left Portsmouth by mutual consent in February and was not attached to another club at the time of the accident.

A LAD of three went on his parents’ computer — and bought a £9,000 car on eBay.

Cheeky Jack Neal made a successful bid for the Barbie pink Nissan Figaro.

The first mum Rachel and dad John knew was when they got a message from the internet auction site to congratulate them.

Rachel, 36, said: “We couldn’t understand. So we checked and saw it was a Barbie pink car which we’d bought for £8,999.99.”

By then Jack was asleep. But he woke next morning and told his parents: “I’ve bought a car.”

Rachel, of Sleaford, Lincs, believes she left her eBay password in her computer.

She said: “Jack’s a real whiz — he’s been able to log on since he was two.

Fitter John, 37, phoned the seller and explained the error.

Rachel said: “He said he would re-advertise.”

BEIJING, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Shenyang Ginde player Liu Jianye will miss the rest of the domestic Chinese Super League season after suffering a split scrotum during a club match, local media reported on Monday.

The 19-year-old midfielder's injury, sustained after Xiamen Lanshi defender Meng Yao kicked him after 15 minutes of Sunday's game, was the latest in a series to plague the northeastern China club, the Beijing News said.

Liu's injury would require an operation and at least 10 stitches, the newspaper said.

Last month, Ginde paid 1.3 million yuan ($164,000) in compensation to former player and Guinea international, Ousmane Bangoura, who lost the sight of his right eye after his eyeball was ruptured by an opponent's studs in a club match against Qingdao Luneng in July.

Ginde, lying third from bottom of the Chinese Super League with three games left in the 2006 season, also lost defenders Wang Jiaduo to a broken nose and Wang Qiang to a broken cheekbone earlier in the year.

"Ginde has had four serious injuries this season and countless light injuries," Ginde's Dutch coach, Martin Koopman, told a news conference after the game.

"The whole club is like a hospital. Our players have suffered too much."

After United survived wave after wave of pressure, I honestly thought we were heading for a 0-0 draw, because so often we just give in after they get used ot our style of play. Today we showed something different. We did not give up, no matter what. At one point we were on the back foot, but our persistance won us in the game so fair play to the lads.

Having won so wonderfully at Old Trafford last Sunday, Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal now face the task of building their season upon that foundation stone.

In any title-winning campaign, mid-table sides like Aston Villa and Middlesbrough simply have to be beaten when they visit your home ground. However Arsenal found them difficult to break down at Emirates Stadium this term and had to come from behind to force a draw on each occasion. One can expect similar doggedness on Saturday when Sheffield United visit Arsenal.

Wenger’s side are so much on a roll as a crest of a wave after victories on the road at Hamburg and Manchester United. But Neil Warnock’s side can leave even the slickest of sides marooned.

“I hope the fact we have won the last two games, not only the one at Old Trafford, will help us a lot,” said Wenger.

“We want to be more ruthless. I felt that we were not determined enough to force the decision in our previous two home games. What I expect from my team is that we come back with more belief and that belief will be transformed into a sheer determination.

“We know that if you want to take the Premiership trophy firstly you must win against everyone at home who is not in the running for the title too. Secondly, you want to win the big games against the contenders who fight for the title.

“We have started with the most difficult part but we have not done the first portion of it - to dictate our home form against teams who do not fight for the title.

“We have shown we can win against a team who have a go at us but now we have to win against the teams who refuse to take a gamble or a risk. Those teams who sit back and defend.”

Arsenal welcome back Thierry Henry, who missed both those victories with a foot complaint, while Robin van Persie also returns after missing Sunday’s game with a hip injury.

Wenger is close to 10 years at Arsenal, his opposite on Saturday will be enjoying his 1,000th game as a manager. The Frenchman cut his teeth at top clubs in England and abroad, Neil Warnock has worked his way up with teams like Scarborough, Bury, Plymouth and Notts County. They stand at opposite ends of the footballing spectrum — in career, background and persona — however Wenger paid fulsome tribute to the Sheffield United manager

“To make 1,000 games you have to survive many bad periods without giving up,” said the Arsenal boss. “You only can do that if you have desire and motivation.

“He has done well to get Sheffield United up there. He is certainly a completely different personality to me but he obviously has the same passion.”

Despite Warnock’s fervour, Sheffield United are favourites to go straight back down to the Championship. However they did force a draw with Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Bottom they may be but the Blades are a total reflection of their manager — tough, no-nonsense and resilient. Arsenal badly need to secure their first Premiership win at Emirates and they may have to call on the spirit of Old Trafford to do it.

Russell Crowe wants to play Steve Irwin in a film based on the life of the 'Crocodile Hunter,' reports Bang Showbiz.

The Oscar-winning Australian actor - who has repeatedly spoken of his affection for friend Steve after he was tragically killed, aged just 44, by a stingray - is in talks with Universal Studios about making a biopic.

Crowe, 42, is desperate to make the movie as he feels it would be a fitting tribute to the wildlife expert's life.

An insider told In Touch Weekly magazine: "It's not about money for Russell - it's about honouring his friend.

"Steve once told Russell that he wanted him to play him in a movie version of his life." A public memorial was held for father of two Steve on Wednesday (22.09.06).

His eight-year-old daughter Bindi read out a tribute to her dad and a pre-recorded video message from Crowe was broadcast.

The 'Gladiator' star said: "We've all lost a friend, we've lost a champion, and we're going to take some time to adjust to that."

Other tributes came from Australian Prime Minister John Howard, 'Dances With Wolves' star Kevin Costner and Cameron Diaz.

Australian TV executives are already in talks about releasing a DVD of the memorial service which was attended by 5,000 people.

AS A motivational technique it is unlikely to find favour with football managers in the English Premiership. But when Stanislav Bernikov, a Russian coach, accused his team of deliberately losing matches, it seemed that words alone were insufficient to drive home the full force of his unhappiness.

Members of the Metallurg Lipetsk team watched in astonishment as five men entered the stadium after a training session and allegedly beat up Yevgeni Shamrin, Denis Zhurnovsky and Alexei Morochko, the goalkeeper, forward and captain. Members of the gang also fired plastic bullets at the trio, Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported. The club dismissed Mr Bernikov, 52.

The incident occurred after the coach apparently suspected his squad of throwing games for money when the team suffered successive defeats in two away matches. He accused the players of taking bribes shortly before the attack last Saturday. The injured men were taken to hospital in Lipetsk, 280 miles (450km) south of Moscow. The team stands sixth in the Russian second division.

Mr Morochko, 33, was still in hospital yesterday with concussion, facial fractures and a plastic bullet wound to his arm. The defender is unlikely to play for the rest of the season.

Mr Shamrin claimed that the coach’s son had been among the men who attacked them. He told The Times: “Without saying a word, they began to beat us up. The other players just stood there watching.” Mr Shamrin, 23, and Mr Zhurnovsky, 26, were sent home after treatment for concussion.

Police in Lipetsk confirmed that there had been an attack at the stadium, that a criminal investigation had begun and that the coach had denied attacking anyone. A club spokesman declined to comment, citing the police inquiry.

Big Brother star Grace assaulted outside nightclub

A housemate from the most recent series of Big Brother has been assaulted outside a nightclub.

Grace Adams-Short, 21, was attacked outside the club in central London early yesterday.

Today's Daily Star said she was punched to the ground, kicked in the head and had her arms burned with a cigarette.

She needed eight stitches in her forehead, the newspaper said.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to reports of an assault outside a nightclub in Charing Cross Road at approximately 3.45am on Monday.

"The victim, a woman in her 20s, was taken by London Ambulance Service to a central London hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later discharged.

"The incident will be investigated by officers from CID at West End Central."

The newspaper said Ms Adams-Short had been trying to calm a row between a friend and a man outside the club.

The man took a swing at her friend, but missed and hit her. When she hit the ground, he kicked her and burned her with his cigarette, it said.

Although the dance teacher from London was disliked by some viewers of the Channel 4 show for her alleged bitchiness, she told the paper the assault had nothing to do with her status as a well-known person from reality TV.

She was quoted as saying: "The guy just lashed out because I tried to stop him hurting my friend. He was an animal. I hope he is found and punished."

Video games, new movie depict President Bush assassination

Though his approval rating recently increased, President Bush is getting killed (or under fire) in internet games and on the big screen.

"Death of a President," a movie by British filmmakers, uses digital wizardry to make an assassination of the President look frighteningly real.

The movie is set to air on British television in October and may soon be shown in the states.

A U.S. Company reportedly paid a million dollars for possible distribution of the movie, though it's likely some people will avoid the film.

Utahn Jeff Hartley worked in the White House in 2001 and remembers the panic he and others felt on 9/11. He thinks a movie showing the assassination of President Bush will hurt a lot of people. "There is a level, a line the media can cross and I think clearly this crosses the line...There are a lot of Americans like me who have a direct tie to what happened and for me it's very personal."

If becoming a movie star wasn't enough, President Bush is also under cyber attack.

"Quest for Bush", a new video game hosted on radical Muslim sites, allows players to shoot at and kill soldiers who look like President Bush. In fact, dozens of internet video games use world leaders as targets...or as villains with automatic weapons.

Lt. Governor Gary Herbert views the creation of these types of entertainment as a dangerous trend. "I understand our free speech rights, but what we tend not to emphasize is the responsibility that comes with free speech."

Child pornographer caught after 5 years on the run

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A man wanted since 2001 for sex offenses in Iowa was arrested in Utah after a suspicious landlord doubted his Social Security number and called the FBI, authorities said Wednesday.

Kirk Swearingen, 45, likely won't be returning to the Midwest. He was indicted on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography after agents examined compact discs in his computer case.

"He's here now, and we have federal charges. We would certainly like to keep him," said Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Salt Lake City.

The mandatory minimum sentence for receiving child pornography is 15 years in prison. Swearingen was in custody awaiting a detention hearing Thursday. Defense attorney Viviana Ramirez could not immediately be reached for comment.

After riding an Amtrak train to Salt Lake City from California on Sept. 15, he attempted to rent an apartment under a different name and supplied a Social Security number that actually belonged to a 91-year-old man, FBI agent Jeff Ross said in a court document. The landlord called the FBI. Agents interviewed Swearingen and caught him in a series of lies about his name, date of birth and Social Security number, Ross said.

After fingerprinting him, agents found an arrest warrant from Jasper County, Iowa, where he was charged in the sexual abuse of two minors five years ago.

"He was just ever so nice and accommodating. ... We could have been targets," landlord John Daley told KJZZ-TV.

Swearingen also is wanted in Rapid City, S.D., where he was charged in 1994 with a sex offense involving a minor, Ross said.

His criminal history includes a conviction for sex offenses in Colorado in 1983, the agent said. Swearingen declared himself the "king of child pornography" but denied possessing or making it, Ross said.

In 2002, four months after the Iowa charges were filed, FBI agents there filed documents in federal court accusing Swearingen of fleeing that state. He was described as a trucker who had used 40 aliases over 20 years.

At 280 milligrams of caffeine, the energy drinks claims it's 350 percent stronger than Red Bull.

In fact, the "Cocaine" drink claims to have nearly as much caffeine as espresso.
But it's the name, not the strength of the drink, which alarms Utah parents.

Over and over again, people told ABC 4 News, if kids get the idea its okay to drink "Cocaine" then they may think its also okay to snort it.

Because the drink is so new - and perhaps because it's so controversial - ABC 4 could not find any Utah stores that are selling it yet, But it may soon be available for purchase on-line.

ARSENE WENGER could be in for a soaking to mark his 10th anniversary as Arsenal boss.
The Frenchman completes a decade with the Gunners next week.

And captain Thierry Henry said: “Just winning our next game would be enough to make him happy but we need to do something special to mark the occasion.

“So maybe we’ll put him under the shower after the game!

“Thankfully, I don’t think Arsene can live without football. It’s his life and it would be very difficult for him to stop.

“To be a great boss you need to be able to manage people — that’s what makes Arsene so special.

“Dealing with me for all these years is enough of a pain for him but he has to deal with all those other characters in the dressing room. He always manages to stay calm and get the right reaction and I really admire that about him.”

Henry was speaking at the launch of the Willow Foundation as Arsenal’s official charity of the year.

He will donate the £27,000 he won for finishing as the Premiership’s top scorer to the charity before tomorrow’s game against Sheffield United.

Congrats Arsene! Let's just hope for a win, he deserves it.

'Wrong Guy' could inspire movie

The man who became a celebrity after he was mistaken for an internet expert and interviewed on BBC News 24 could see a film made about his story.

The incident involving Guy Goma is the basis for a film being planned by Alison Rosenzweig, who produced the 2002 Nicolas Cage film Windtalkers.

"If they want to do a movie, I don't mind talking with them," Mr Goma, 38, told the Associated Press news agency.

The unemployed computer technician had been at the BBC for a job interview.

But the graduate from the Congo gained worldwide attention in May after a mix-up saw him interviewed on air instead of Guy Kewney, editor of Newswireless.net.

'Kind of famous'

BBC News 24 later brought Mr Goma back to the studio to talk about the incident.

"He's a fun, kind of internationally famous person that I think is an interesting source for movie material," Ms Rosenzweig said.

"We're developing the project, and hopefully we'll be able to set it up on a major studio."

She added that the amount of money Mr Goma could make would depend on the financing of the project.

So, this unemployed guy is gonna have his own movie for mistakenly being interviewed live on national television? Fair play

Today I went to the movies. For the purposes of the story, I shall describe what I looked like. I'm a guy, first of all. I was wearing a leather black trenchcoat (just got it in on EBay yesterday), knee high black leather boots, black pants, black shirt (no all black, its actually a Skinny Puppy shirt), black leather vest, black watch, black headband, black hair (in a Mohawk, except I have one 6 inch strip covering my eye, sort of a combination of two hair styles, it really suits me but I spend about 60 dollars a week a hair products; well I don't pay for it my mom does) black finger nail polish, white facial makeup (the base was white to excentuate the other makeup) balc mascarra, black lipstick and black ear rings. As I was getting out of my black Volvo with my black friend Jarome (black like my soul) we went to buy tickets. We got our tickets to the movie (Little Miss Sunshine) we decided to wait to go in because we had some time. Jarome spoted one of his other black friends and because he was black (like my soul) I was immediately inclined to go say hi. However, Jarome's friend Tyrone asked me why I wear so much black! Can you believe that! Ugh, I was disguested that he would judge me just because of the way I look. I didn't even have a chance to respond, I just started crying and walked away for a few minutes. Jarome came after me and we went into the movie but I was so mad that he would introduce me to such a jerk I sat two seats away from him.

After I dropped him off I went to tell my mommy what had happened and she totally didn't understand my plight. I told her she just didn't get it and cried some more, then she gave me 300 dollars to spend with my friends or to buy stuff this week (as if I would let her BUY my happiness back). So I took the money and I went to my room (which I still need to get painted, but I can't find the right shade of black) and then I went into my attached bathroom and cried some more. God, sometimes people don't get how hard I have it, they just don't understand being different, you know? God sometimes I feel like dying, I just hate life. I think I'll go write in my black covered diary with a black sharpie and write about my blackened soul which was blackened due to the black hearts of the shameless b*stards who mock my black apparal. Tomorrow, I'll go buy some black accessories, maybe that will cheer me up, but I doubt it, cause I just feel so bad right now. And another thing, my mom is always trying to bring me down. She bought me a 200 dollar wireless keyboard/mouse set for my new computer so I can't even strangle myself. Does anyone know how to make people understand?

That's my rant, I'm going to play Postal 2 then I'll go get in bed (I just got a knew queen size matress, maybe I'll actually rest in peace for once).

Now that the champions league week is out of the way its back to matters at home. They don't come much bigger than Manchester United away.
It’s been tricky for us in recent years at Old Trafford and maybe we are due a bit of luck.

Man Utd have come out this season flying and picking up maximum points from 4 (???) games played. This has been without Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes who surely will be back in the line up to face us as they were against Scottish champions Celtic.

Alex Fergusson has employed special tactics against us in recent years and they have worked pretty much all the time. People will go on about them being 'dirty' against us and being over physical but its more than that.

What I have noticed that both Man Utd and Chelsea now do when they play us is they have everyone behind the ball when we are in possession and when we lose it they attack us from many directions. Alot of smaller clubs use this same tactic against us but they don't have the ability to hurt us (ok, maybe they have this season so far) but Manchester United have Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, Saha etc
This is the reason why they were so dominant against us in the FA cup final; they were tactically perfect against us that day. We know that Wenger will not readjust his thoughts/tactics/belief. So let’s hope we can pass through them and continue with our domination of possession and bloody take our bloody chances!

Thierry Henry is back for this game after being left out of the trip to Hamburg. Wenger has mentioned that he is doubtful but I think its mind games from Arsene. I think Adebayor will start in preference over Van Persie as it’s away from home and he is more likely to hold the ball up and provide a more physical presence for Henry.

Hopefully Theo Walcott will be given a chance from the bench, it would be lovely to see Theo strike terror into the heart of the Manchester United back four.
I think Freddie Ljungberg will play and I think Rosicky is undroppable in his last two appearances so I expect Alex Hleb to be rested for this one.

The good news is that Ryan Giggs who has been in good form this season is injured with a hamstring problem so that’s one less player to worry about (shame Rooney isn't the hamstring victim)

Our form against Manchester United in recent years has been awful but I the fact that we have not been playing very well in the league and Manchester united have had maximum points will work in our favour I believe. Its usually when we are flying that we hit a wall against them, this time we will be fighting to win this match, sometimes we are a bit overconfident when we are on top form this can't be said this time. As we have done all season so far I expect us to have a large portion of the possession (As I'm sure Man United will as well) and being away from home I think we will manage to get chances on the counter.

My very bold prediction (not sure if its from the heart or head) will be...

Prediction: Manchester United 1 - Arsenal 2

A Serbian man needed emergency surgery after he had sex with a hedgehog on a witchdoctor's advice.

Zoran Nikolovic, 35, from Belgrade, says the witchdoctor told him it would cure his premature ejaculation.

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin's eight-year-old daughter last night (14.09.06) vowed to copy her father and swim with stingrays.

Brave Bindi even said she will film the same giant fish who killed her father when she presents her own wildlife TV show 'Jungle Girl', scheduled to air in January.

Steve, 44, died tragically last week when a stingray's poisoned barb pierced his heart while he was filming a documentary at Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

It was thought Bindi's show would be axed following his death but she wants to carry on her father's conservation and TV work.

Steve's manager John Stainton revealed the naturalist only decided to film the stingray that killed him on the spur of the moment, so his daughter could see it.

He had been shooting scenes for his own new show 'Ocean's Deadliest' but suddenly decided to look for stingrays, which are known as the 'pussycats of the sea'.

John said: "It should have been an innocent encounter for a TV show aimed at children. Bindi's new series is going to premiere next January throughout the world.

"Steve was an integral part of that programme. We will do him proud and continue that effort."

Meanwhile, Steve's mother-in-law, Julie Raines, has revealed that Bindi, her two-year-old brother Robert, referred to by the wildlife expert as Bob, and his widow Terri have been left devastated by his untimely death.

Julie said: "Robert says, 'Where's daddy?' But Bindi's been a rock. It's just a very hard time."

My Assesment:
Looking at their squad, they have some real stars in there, and we're away, so this may not be easy at all. They have a very strong back four, despite the loss of their influential captain, Van Buyten. Their midfield is a bit lacking but with Van Der Vaart bossing the midfield and Guerrero and Lauth up front, they look very dangerous.

Disgraced Italian giants Juventus were held to an embarrassing draw against the 10 men of Rimini in the Turin club's first Serie B appearance following their relegation for their leading role in the Italian match-fixing scandal.

We started well actually, Hleb was very unlucky not to score. Then came their goal. Typical. One shot,one goal. And then it got to the player's heads. They started to beleive that they were unlucky, and felt like they were not going to score. We finally got a penalty, courtesy of the very effective Eboue, possibly our most direct player this season. After that, we did something we almost always do-relax. Why? Is it arrogance? Fatigue? I have no idea, but we just do it, all the time. After the goal, we just sat there,did nothing. Then when the 80th minute came, we pounded them. Now that would have been acceptable, had it been the class of 2002, but we can't just leave things for the last minute, as it seems we get a goal every 20 shots these days.

Johan Djourou has recovered from a shoulder injury picked up on international duty with Switzerland Under-21s and should start at centre-back.

A team of those who didn’t quite work out as well as some

The challenge? Select a team of Arsène’s signings from his years at Arsenal that would be beaten by some of those sides of ours from the mid 90s under George Graham. This was the best (or worst) I could come up with. See what you think…

1. Manuel Almunia. Protests? Not from Ryan Giggs anyhow as Almunia came flying out like a ferret up a trouser leg before skinning poor Manuel somewhere on Avenell Road in 2004. As convincing a piece of support for Bob Wilson’s view on Arsène’s keeper myopia as you could wish to find.

2. Rémi Garde. Rémi appeared along with Arsène as a taster of the French treats we were to be blessed with over the coming years. Vieira, Petit, Pires and Henry have all given us fantastic moments. Rémi shuffled around in an inoffensive manner before wisely hanging them up and returning home.

3. Nelson Vivas. Arrived with a good looking CV which included a sackful of games for Argentina. Just goes to show that you should always conduct an interview, preferably invoving a challenge to hit a barn door from short range. Only redeeming factor was a somewhat liberal interpretation of the rules on hacking at opponents knees.

4. Gilles Grimandi. Yes, he has his plus points, especially his completely cynical qualities as shown in the recent Bergkamp testimonial game when pulling down Edgar Davids. And he seemed a nice fella. He even took public transport to training during the fuel shortage. However, most things; the lack of speed, the inability to play a pass to a red shirt, the fact that George Graham would have loved him, all make Gilles a shoe in for the ‘unable to replace Vieira’ holding role in midfield.

5. Pascal Cygan. Go on, admit it. When Pascal was unveiled to the world’s press in the summer of 2003 you thought, ‘great’. We all did. Here he was. 6 feet 5 inches of defensive steel. An enforcer to bring tears to the eyes of Premiership number 9s. A cultured, left footed Jaap Stam. And all for around £2million! A bargain. The brochure, though, was a little deceiving. What did we get? An accident waiting to happen. Take the faux-pas of Andy Linegan and a young Tony Adams and multiply infinitely and you get an idea of the potential for disaster that Pascal’s name on the teamsheet brings. He undoubtedly sees himself as a Beckenbaur type figure, stroking passes around. Unfortunately, more often than not a Cygan stroke reached row X in the East Stand. Maybe Highbury was too small for him. The recent game v Ajax supports this. Several Pascal passes only reached row W. The only player in living memory who actually shrinks when he jumps for a header.

6. Igor Stepanovs. February 25, 2001. Old Trafford. Manchester United 6 Arsenal 1. End of.

7. Junichi Inamoto. Definitely increased the take of touts selling over the odds tickets to gullible Japanese tourists to get a glimpse of Junichi on the bench, at best. On the pitch there was very little achieved. Plus, admit it, during the World Cup of 2002, you did think, ‘Arsene’s dropped one here,’ when he started scoring goals just after we’d given him a free.

8. Lauren. Controversial one, this. ‘Lauren the full back’ has won medals and played steadily. ‘Lauren the full back’, however, is not included in the team. How many times have you seen ‘Lauren the goalscoring attacking midfielder’ that we signed play? Exactly. And anyhow, £7 million at 2000 prices was always a bit steep.

9. Davor Suker. This one might also be a bit harsh, but missing a penalty in a UEFA Cup final shoot out with your last kick is no way to go out.

10. Emmanuel Adebayor. The jury remains out on this one but there are some indicators that it may all end in tears. His record of falling out with most people he meets, the dodgy hair-dos and the unerring (and frankly unwanted) ability to scoop clear chances clear over the bar. If he scores a Premiership winning goal at Old Trafford, of course, this selection will seem extremely foolish. I’m not holding my breath.

11. Jermaine Pennant. Pennant is here as a representative of the young Englishmen who have given us so much to be proud of in the last 10 years. Jail terms, late for training, overpaid and underperforming, he perfected the stereotype with his moan after leaving about British youngsters not getting enough chances at Arsenal under Arsène. Why’s that, Jermaine?

Question is, could they win in a battel of the giants against a George Graham team of: Vince Bartram, Pal Lydersen, Eddie McGoldrick, Andy Linighan, Steve Morrow, David Hillier, Ian Selley, Jimmy Carter, Mark Flatts, Paul Dickov and Kevin Campbell?

Burglars served a drunk free beers until he passed out after he walked into a pub while they were robbing the safe.
The pair were clearing out a pub in Amstetten, Austria, during the night when drunk Hermann Bendt, 47, stumbled in, sat at the bar and ordered a beer.
The duo served him three pints "on the house" and chatted to him before Bendt fell asleep across the bar.
The burglars then emptied the safe and took all the valuables, including expensive stereo equipment, from the pub. The sleeping guest was later woken up by police.
He could only describe the men as "one big bloke and one smaller one".

Paris Hilton's album entered the UK chart at number 29 last week

Hundreds of Paris Hilton albums have been tampered with in the latest stunt by "guerrilla artist" Banksy.

Banksy has replaced Hilton's CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?

He has also changed pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog's head.

A spokeswoman for Banksy said he had doctored 500 copies of her debut album Paris in 48 record shops across the UK.

She told the BBC News website: "He switched the CDs in store, so he took the old ones out and put his version in."

It might be that there will be some people who agree with his views on the Paris Hilton album

But he left the original barcode so people could buy the CD without realising it had been interfered with.

Banksy is notorious for his secretive and subversive stunts such as sneaking doctored versions of classic paintings into major art galleries.

His spokeswoman said he had tampered with the CDs in branches of HMV and Virgin as well as independent record stores.

He visited cities including Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and London, she added.

A spokesman for HMV said the chain had recovered seven CDs from two Brighton shops but was unaware that other locations were affected.

Artistic leeway

No customers had complained or returned a doctored version, he said.

"It's not the type of behaviour you'd want to see happening very often," he said.

"I guess you can give an individual such as Banksy a little bit of leeway for his own particular brand of artistic engagement.

"Often people might have a view on something but feel they can't always express it, but it's down to the likes of Banksy to say often what people think about things.

"And it might be that there will be some people who agree with his views on the Paris Hilton album."

A spokesman for Virgin Megastores said staff were searching for affected CDs but it was proving hard to find them all.

"I have to take my hat off - it's a very good stunt," he added.

Steve Irwin dead

LEGEND dead ... Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin was killed after he was fatally barbed by a stingray off north Queensland.

THE Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It appeared that he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest, Queensland Police Inspector Russell Rhodes said. He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas where he had been filming an underwater documentary when it occurred.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

Mr Irwin, 44, was killed just after 11am, Eastern Australian time.

His American wife Terri learned for the tragedy from police in Tasmania, where she had been trekking in Cradle Mountain National Park.

His friend and manager John Stainton said Mr Irwin was filming some segment for daughter Bindi's show on the reef between sessions filiming the main documentary.

It is understood Mr Irwin was killed instantly.

A source said Mr Irwin was already dead when his body was brought onto the Isle.

A source said Mr Irwin's body was being airlifted to Cairns Hospital in North Queensland for formal identification.

An Emergency Services Response Management spokeswoman said they received a call about the tragedy at 11.11 am, Australian Eastern Standard Time.

The response unit left in a helicopter for the Batt Reef at 11.18am and arrived shortly after.

Mr Irwin was pronounced dead at the scene immediately, the spokeswoman said.

Steve Irwin's activities went far beyond his universally-known roles as an international TV star andowner of Australia Zoo, north of Brisbane.

They includes assisting Australian Quarantine Inspection service with advertising campaigns warning travellers not to bring foreign matter into the country, and he was becoming a vocal critic of the slaughter of Australian wildlife.

The federal government recently dropped plans to allow crocodile safaris for wealty tourists in the Northern Territority after Irwin intervened, taking Environment Minister Ian Campbell on a tour of croc infested Cape York.

At the time, Irwin told Australian TV program A Current Affair that: ``Killing one of our beautiful animals in the name of trophy hunting will have a very negative impact on tourism, which scares the living daylights out of me.''

The Prime Minister John Howard considered Irwin a friend, inviting him to a barbecue at The Lodge for US President George W. Bush in 2003.

Irwin was a devoted father to his two children Bindi, 8, and Bob, 3.

"Bindi is the reason I was put on this earth. All I want to do is be with her and all she wants to do is be with me. We have such a great time together and it's not just a father and daughter relationship, it's also like I'm a big brother and she's my little sister,'' he told New Idea magazine in 2005.

However the previous year Irwin had created a furore when he took 'Baby Bob' into Australia Zoo's crocodile enclosure while feeding a four-metre salt water crocodile.

Irwin burst onto the media scene with his documentary The Crocodile Hunter in 1992, and his over-the-top persona soon made him a star. In 2002 he burst on to the big screen on Crocodile Hunter: The Collision Course, soon achieving A-list fame.

His celebrity friends include Russell Crowe.

Despite his worldwide popularity, closer to home Irwin got bad press after he was controversially paid $175,000 for a quarantine ad.

Irwin was named Queenslander of the Year in 2003.

WEST HAM?! HOW? WHY?

Just a few days ago it seemed Tevez and Mascherano were heading to Arsenal and Manchester United,respectively. It seems that they're heading to West Ham on a one year old with those pesky russians at it again. Everyone's guessing Chelsea have signed them and are sending them out for a year. It just annoys me how they can afford to do this. And now it seems like the Cole deal is off. Maybe Chelsea's plan was to unsettle Arsenal all along? There are a lot of maybe's but one thing is for sure-the start of the season has been an absolute shambles.

Doz got this tattoo made on 22nd July, which was a month before the release of the movie (Snakes on a Plane) and he saw this movie on 17th August. He got this tattoo inked because he thought it would be fun to do that and be a geek that did it. He is least bothered about how the movie did on the box office and he has no tint of repentance for his tattoo.

Austria girl 'describes kidnap'

An Austrian teenager held prisoner for eight years has told police her captor made her call him "master" for the first year, a newspaper report says.

Natascha Kampusch made the remarks to police after escaping on Wednesday, the mass-circulation Krone Zeitung said.

DNA tests on Friday confirmed Ms Kampusch's claim to be the schoolgirl who disappeared eight years ago.

Her captor, 44-year-old communications technician Wolfgang Priklopil, killed himself after her escape.

He is believed to have kept Ms Kampusch in a concealed, sound-proof chamber in his cellar.

Ms Kampusch's parents have spoken of their joy at being re-united with her.

"We fell into each other's arms... I recognised her from her way of being, her face... I always thought she was alive," her mother told Austrian TV.

'Keep still'

The Krone Zeitung says Ms Kampusch told police that she considered her abductor to be "criminal".

What next for Natascha?

The paper quoted her as saying: "Wolfgang was always kind to me."

She also reportedly told police: "I had to call him master for the first year."

On the day of her kidnapping, she was dragged into a vehicle and told: "Keep still, lie down or something is going to happen to you," the paper said.

Police on Thursday tracked down the van in which Ms Kampusch was kidnapped and are investigating if Mr Priklopil had an accomplice, Austrian TV reported.

Detectives had questioned Mr Priklopil at the time of Ms Kampusch's disappearance but never searched his house in Strasshof, less than 16km (10 miles) north-east of the city where she lived.

Many Austrians are asking how the suspect was able to keep the girl captive for eight years in a rural village without raising suspicion, the BBC's Kerry Skyring reports from the Austrian capital.

Psychologists interviewed by Austrian media say Ms Kampusch may have developed "Stockholm syndrome", whereby some abductees gradually begin to sympathise with their captors.

'Mama'

Police spokesman Erich Zwettler said Natascha appeared to be coping well.

"In the morning, we were informed by our colleague who is taking care of her that she slept well, she had breakfast and she seems to be very calm," he said.

"We assume that she is psychologically coping well with the situation."

Ms Kampusch's father, his eyes moist and voice faltering, said on Austrian TV that he had never thought he would live to see the day of Natascha's return.

"Honestly, I didn't think that I'd still experience this," said Ludwig Koch.

"She said: 'Dad, I love you.' And the next question was: 'Is my toy car still there?' It was Natascha's favourite toy, I never gave it away in all those years.

"I always put out of my mind the thought that she was dead."

'Dash for freedom'

Few details have been released about how Natascha regained her freedom but state television quoted a police spokesman as saying she had escaped when the door to her hiding place was left open.

Other reports quoted federal police official Gerhard Lang who said that while the girl was "locked up day and night" she was "let out for different chores in the house".

She was apparently vacuuming the car on Wednesday when she saw her chance to get away, Lang said.

It is not clear what the alleged kidnapper's motives were and whether Natascha was sexually abused during her captivity.

Police say he had no connection to the girl's family and there had been no ransom demand.

A police investigator told the BBC's PM programme that Mr Priklopil had given her food and other necessities and even taught her reading, writing and arithmetic.

In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college.

On a hike through the bush he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed so Mbembe approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot, and found a large thorn deeply embedded in it.

As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the thorn out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.
The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stared at him. For several tense moments Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away.

Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later he was walking through the San Diego Zoo with his teenage son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mbembe and his son Tapu were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Mbembe and lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.
Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mbembe couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Mbembe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of the man's legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing, killing him.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Sunderland are close to appointing a world class manager - and Niall Quinn claims he could be in place for Monday's game against West Brom.

Quinn has presided over first-team affairs this season, with all five games ending in defeat.

But after Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat to Bury, Quinn said: "I'll revert back to chairman as soon as possible.

"I'd hope for Monday's game - it's 70-30 now we'll have a world-class manager in place."

Sunderland have lost their opening four Championship games - and the Black Cats lost 2-0 to Bury, bottom of League Two, at Gigg Lane on Tuesday.

Quinn added: "It's been hard being temporary manager.

"I've been working hard behind the scenes to get the manager in place. I probably won't be in charge for the West Brom game on Monday.

"I stepped into this role because I didn't get the quality of manager I thought I would but we are now getting very close to doing that."

Quinn, who led the consortium that took at Sunderland at the end of July, promised the fans some good news as soon as possible.

"I know my role is best here as chairman," said the former Republic of Ireland international.

"Over the weekend we may have better news. I can't name names because we've nothing done yet but we're getting closer.

"We think we've somebody who will give people a big lift they need and we'll give him the budget he deserves."

The 13-year-old first baseman for Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, stands an imposing 6-feet-8 and weighs 256 pounds.

"I was standing next to him and I was up to his elbows," Scott Kingery, a 12-year-old, 4-foot-9 Phoenix shortstop, said after meeting Durley.

At the secluded dorms where teams stay during the tournament, Durley has become as much of an attraction as the pool, the pingpong table and the video arcade.

The soft-spoken Durley doesn't mind the attention. He even lets opponents snap pictures with him during down time.

But Durley, who played at the series last year, too - when he was a mere 6-foot-4 - is crystal-clear about his top priority in South Williamsport.

"I'm more confident this year, ready to do what I need to do," Durley said after a practice. "Hit the ball out."

Fittingly, his favorite major leaguer is David "Big Papi" Ortiz, the Boston Red Sox slugger.

Durley, batting fifth, didn't hit a homer, but he walked twice, singled and scored a run Sunday when his Arabian American squad from Dhahran defeated Saipan, 9-1. Saudi Arabia (2-0) stands a good chance of advancing out of pool play after failing to win a game last year.

Tom and Jerry to be edited to cut out smoking!

Children's TV channel Boomerang is to edit scenes from Tom and Jerry cartoons where characters are shown smoking.
The move follows an investigation by media watchdog Ofcom into a viewer's complaint that the vintage animations were not appropriate for young viewers.

The watchdog recognised the "historic" cartoons were made at a time "when smoking was more generally accepted.Two such cartoons include Texas Tom from 1950 and Tennis Chumps from 1949.

'Stylised manner'

In the former Tom is shown trying to impress a female cat by rolling a cigarette, lighting it and smoking it with one hand. In the latter, Tom's tennis opponent is seen smoking a large cigar.
